Digital or Flexo?

Digital printing technology is rapidly changing the face of the label printing industry. At Abbott Label, we offer the latest and most innovative label printing solutions. Whether you need a long print run of high quality four color process labels, or extremely small print runs with variable content, Abbott Label is the only name you need to know. Our knowledgeable sales and customer service staff will help guide you to find the print solution that exactly meets your customer’s unique needs.

Here’s a checklist to help you decide what technology is best for your job.

What is your quantity?

Long run jobs are typically run on Flexo presses, whereas short run jobs are produced more cost effectively on a
digital press.

Unique Substrates?

Do you need special face stocks, foils, unsupported films or other non-standard materials? In the past, these substrates were hard to find in a digital printing environment, due to the special top coatings required for some digital printing systems. However, Abbott label offers you the maximum flexibility to print even the most unique materials on either our flexo or digital presses. How doe we do it? Our state of the art, HP Indigo digital print system comes with an IN LINE PRIMING UNIT, which enables us to prepare virtually any type of material for digital printing -even the most unusual substrates.

How many colors?

If you need labels printed in only one or two ink colors, Flexo printing may offer the more cost-effective solution. If you need four-color printing, or have many versions of labels, digital printing offers advantages in lower up-front costs because no plates are required for printing.

What’s your turnaround?

If you need it fast, digital usually offers quicker delivery.

Do you need proofs?

Digital offers the most accurate proofs since your proof is an actual sample of the printed piece. Proofs for flexo printing are created on a separate printing system, and then our experienced Pressmen will mix the ink colors and match our print to the proof as the job is being set up. Rest assured that quality is of paramount importance at Abbott Label, whether your labels are printed via flexo or digital.

Do you want customization?

Digital printing offers the most affordable way to customize your job with variable content. Digital Label printing does not require printing plates so the set up costs are lower. And Digital printing allows you to customize each individual label to create unique “one to one” marketing materials, direct mail pieces, customized packaging and more!
